EDUCATION
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

When people are educated, not only do they change but, they are better equipped to change the world. That's why education is the core of all DreamWhere® programs. However, our focused Education Program is built upon popular STEM and STEAM initiatives but with the additional component that we believe is necessary for success. Our DreamWhere® Education initiative is STREAM.

The added discipline of Reading & Writing is important for under-privileged and at-risk communities where literacy is critical for success. Without literacy, individuals are automatically excluded from opportunities in STEM or STEAM. As reported by Houston's Adult Literacy Blueprint,
"1 in every 3 adults in Harris County has low functional literacy,
meaning they do not have the skills they need to function for their roles on the job, in their family, or in society." |
There are more than 1 million adults in Houston that are functionally illiterate. Black and Hispanic adults in Harris County are 3 times more likely than White adults to have low literacy rates. (Source: Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies - 2017) Illiteracy affects crime, poverty, systemic injustice, politics, health, and the family unit. Illiteracy is also one of the main deterrents to the fulfillment of a dream.
DreamWhere® intends to change that with programs for children AND adults. With Reading and Writing as the basic foundation, we expand upon literacy to include:
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Foreign Language (Spanish)
Financial Literacy
